Apply for or renew your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) if you’re from the UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.
An EHIC lets you get state healthcare in other EEA countries and Switzerland at a reduced cost or sometimes for free.
There will be no change to the rights and status of EU nationals living in the UK, nor UK nationals living in the EU, while the UK remains in the EU.
EHIC is free. Some services charge to help you apply - these are unnecessary and you don’t need to use them.
You’ll need to provide your:
- full name
- address
- date of birth
- National Insurance or NHS number (England and Wales)
- CHI number (Scotland)
- Health and Care number (Northern Ireland)
EHIC doesn’t replace travel insurance.
