Weight Matters is a weight loss programme for obese adults.  Through a combination of individual and group support, the service aims to help people loose 10% of their body weight at a steady pace, through healthy eating, portion size, reading food labels, exercise, and help with stress and confidence issues

A team of specialist lifestyle advisors and personal trainers have joined up with GPs to improve the health of people with long-term conditions in Tameside.  Tameside Active, works with doctors in their surgeries helping patients with long-term conditions to develop a healthy living plan.

There is a free local Stop Smoking Service in Tameside.  Studies show that people are 4 times more likely to quit with help.    The service offers free one-to-one support along with stop smoking medicines, which are available for the cost of a prescription.

Tai chi combines deep breathing and relaxation with slow and gentle movements.
It can help to reduce stress, improve balance and general mobility and increase muscle strength in the legs. It is low-impact which means it won’t put much pressure on your bones and joints.

Each course is aimed at beginners.

A slower-paced version of the beautiful game walking football is the fastest growing form of football in the UK. Players walk instead of run making it gentler on the joints and  a great way to keep fit.  All you need is loose clothing, a pair of trainers and a sense of humour.

Family Welly walks

A chance for you and your little one to get active outdoors with our new Welly Walks. Walk are suitable for families of all ages and there are fun nature themed activities along the way.

 

Active Medlock.

Every Wednesday 9.30am (during term time)

Weekly walks take place at Active Medlock every Wednesday from 9.30am, featuring a special appearance from our friendly mascot Maddie the Monkey. Each walk will end with access to the exciting new soft play area at Sky High Adventure located within Active Medlock for only £1!

Active Copley.

Welly walks at Active Copley will take place monthly, due to the increased length of the walk. Dates will be announced here and on our Facebook page as they become available. Meeting at Copley leisure centre at 1.30pm, Welly Walks will give your little one to stretch their legs and explore nature as we venture up to Stalybridge Park. Walks will end back at the leisure centre where you can grab a brew and catch up with new and old friends.

No booking necessary – Just turn up in your wellies! Parking is available on site, and there are toilet and refreshment facilities available within both centres.

Active Tameside’s Supported Services aims to give people with a disability or additional needs the opportunity to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

Supported Services offers a weekly programme of activity to meet the needs of individuals with a disability or additional needs.

Our Lifestyle team deliver a diverse range of fun activities including swimming, sport, dance, trampolining, football, drama and arts and crafts as well as adult qualifications.

Activities also include a focus on life skills such as horticulture, cooking, housekeeping and independent travelling.

We focus on providing a safe and fun environment which encourages groups to socialize through sport and activity whilst also teaching independence.
